We are glad to inform, that the World UltraCycling Aassociation (WUCA) has again awarded the right to organise the World Championships in the Unsupported category to the Race Around Poland team! This means that although the official World Championships in other categories will take place in 2025 during Race Around Austria, the world's best ultra cyclists riding without a supporting team will again be hosted in Poland, and our this year's World Champions Aneta Lamik (K50-), Jakub Tomasik (open, M50-) and Adam Szczygieł (M50+) will be able to defend their titles on home soil. Will they succeed? Time will tell.
The WUCA's decision is a confirmation not only of the high level of organisation of the Race Around Poland, but, above all, of the recognition of Poland as a country where unsupported ultra cycling is incredibly popular and has reached an extremely high level. In our country, apart from RAP, a dozen or so ultracycling events are organised annually, with a total of several thousand participants, the overwhelming majority of whom compete in the unsupported solo category. Names such as Mariusz Cukierski, Cezary Wójcik, Krystian Jakubek, Jędrzej Gąsiorowski, Jarosław Kędziorek, Witold Kania, Paweł Pieczka, Bogdan Adamczyk, Andrzej Tercjak, Paweł Miłkowski or Paweł Sojecki among men, or Małgorzata Warelich, Joanna Rumińska-Pietrzyk, Marta Gryczko, Anna Kopytowska or Aneta Lamik among women are known to almost every fan of endurance cycling in Poland, and some of them have already made their mark on world arenas. It is enough to mention this year's results here: Krystian Jakubek's 3rd place in the VIA Race, Jędrzej Gąsiorowski's 3rd place in the Race Through Poland, Paweł Puławski's great performance in the Transcontinental Race, or Paweł Sojecki's performance in the NorthCape4000. The men's performance was not inferior to that of the women, with Joanna Rumińska presenting herself superbly in the VIA Race and Małgorzata Warelich taking a phenomenal fourth place in the USA in the TABR!
The first World Championships in Ultracycling in the unsupported category, held this year during Race Around Poland, confirmed the excellent preparation of Polish riders for the competition. Jakub Tomasik's masterful time of 180:47:05 allowed him to take the 5th place open of the whole race and overtake the finishers a few dozen hours after him, riding with support.
We are convinced that next year's competition for the jerseys of the World Champions in the unsupported category will be even fiercer, and we hope to see all the best riders currently competing in Poland, including Christoph Strasser, Robin Gamperle, who beat Strasser during the Transcontinental Race this year, or the incredible Adam Białek - winner of the VIA Race this year.
One thing is certain - in 2025, the centre of the world's unsupported ultra cycling will once again be Poland, and an incredible treat is in store for fans of the sport!
