Reading time: about 3 minutes
Today's weather allowed for a dry ride. The wind was blowing from the west, so the competitors who were in the lead, along the coast and in Warmia and Mazury, took advantage of this fact. Those who were still leaving the mountains today were unfortunately unlucky.
Anniina Saaranluoma (FIN) reached the finish line of the 1/2 RAP 1800km, which is located in the beautiful Grudza 83 resort. At the finish line, she admitted that it was her most difficult race so far. She compared it to the Race Across Italy, famous for its many difficult climbs. However, those we met on the route and who completed both races unanimously agree that the Race Around Poland is harder.
The podium of the RAP 1800km was filled:
1. Andrii Goncharow 102:20:56
2. Adam Szczygieł 113:17:44
3. Anniina Saaranluoma 136:28:50
At the back of the "peloton" Tilo Arnhold (DEU) was fighting to stay within the limit. He arrived in Grudza 14 minutes before the required limit of exactly 6 days. He lay down for a 3-hour nap and then at around 5 p.m. he set off towards the next CP7 - Hotel Bastion in Kostrzyn nad Odrą.
After a collision with a vehicle, Ingolf Micklish (USA) withdrew from the competition, he still made it to CP8 Resort Milenko, but injuries prevented him from continuing in the race.
We still have 28 competitors on the route. In the lead, in the solo supported category, Stefano Semenzato (ITA) is riding, who is at 3300km and will soon enter PK11 in the Narewka Commune. The last in line is Tilo Arnhold (DEU) (Zgorzelec - 1870km). The "peloton" has therefore stretched over 1400km.
The world championship battle (3600km solo unsupported) looks as follows:
M50 - Cezary Wójcik is in Sejny at 3100km, the runner-up is Jens Volkersdorfer (DEU) (170km behind), and in 3rd place is Maximilien Couvreur (240km behind).
Kemal Erdem, suffering from Shermer's neck, is still in 4th position.
At CP10 Czarek was 3h 40m faster than last year's result of Kuba, despite the fact that this year's CP10 is located 16km further - in Hotelik Gołdap. The chance for the course record in the unsupported category has increased again.
M50+ Piotr Mos is at 2680km and has a 170km advantage over Witold Kania. This year's pace also promises a record for the route in this category
F50- Lisa Brömmel is at 2630km and Maria Łuszczek is exactly 270km behind her
